NUMERICAL   ATTRIBUTE  VALUE   RECONCILIATION

ABSTRACT:

                     Data integration is often one of the most challenging tasks in managing modern information systems. The challenges exist at three different levels: schema heterogeneity, entity heterogeneity, and data heterogeneity. The existing literature has largely focused on schema heterogeneity and entity heterogeneity; and the very limited work on data heterogeneity either avoid attribute value conflicts or resolve them in an ad-hoc manner. The focus of this research is on data heterogeneity.  A decision-theoretical framework that enables attribute value conflicts to be resolved in a cost-efficient manner. The framework takes into consideration the consequences of correct data values and selects the values the total expected error clear for all application problems.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:

                   The framework takes into consideration the consequences of incorrect numerical values and selects the valuethat minimizes the expected cost of errors for all data application problems under consideration. study, a data diffusion rule is proposed based on autility function that is a linear combination of a number offeatures such as recentness, cost, and accuracy, and the bestvalue is the one with the maximum utility that data from heterogeneous data sources are firstconsolidated into a single master record; this master recordis then used to support various information requests fromusers. For instance, nowadays numerous firms maintain adatabase of current and potential customers to supportactivities such as direct marketing, customersurvey,aftersaleservices, and management of product recalls. Theseactivities represent a significant part of the overall economy To retrieve the neededdata,eachapplicationproblemneedsacorresponding query. In constructing such a query,the attributes that are used as the criteria to select the entityinstances should appear in the selection condition of thequery, and those that are needed in the subsequent actionsshould appear in the projection list of the query. For instance,if a firm plans to market a product directly to potentialcustomers in a certain income bracket, then the Incomeattribute should appear in the selection condition of thecorresponding query. If Income is used only in selecting thetarget customers

EXISTING SYSTEM:

Existing approaches proposed in prior literature often ignore such data inconsistencies orresolve them in an ad hoc manner. I discuss differenttypes of data application problems, supporting queries,and costs of errors. In Section 4, we demonstrate usingsimple queries how certain value intervals can be used to generate candidate values and simplify the estimation ofprobabilities. for categorical attributes, a value observedfrom a data source is either correct or wrong; while fornumerical attributes, it is typically inappropriate orinsufficient to treat a value as correct or not.

DISADVATAGES OF EXISTING SYSTEM:

The secondcategory of strategies resolve multiple conflicting valuesby selecting a single value for the same real-world entityinstance; the process is also referred to as data fusion proposed to improve thesolution accuracy by taking into consideration accuracies ofdata sources as well as their interdependencies

METHODOLOGY USED:

 

QUERIES COMPOSITE  ARI FOR CORRECT EMPLOYEE VALUE SELECTION:

 

            With two or more unreliable attributes included in the datasources, their posterior distribution can be estimatedseparately if the attributes’ true values and sources oferrors are independent ARI, the one with the lowest misrepresentationcost should be designated as the candidate valuecombination for the composite ARI. To obtain such acandidate value combination at most one of the attributes appears in the projectionlist of any query, or 2) the costs of misrepresentation errorsassociated with multiple attributes are always additive whenthey appear in the projection list of the same query, andthe probabilities associated with each of these attributes canbe separately estimated. If these conditions areviolated,themisrepresentation cost for any given value combination canstill be calculated This framework allows organizations toresolve data inconsistency in an automated and cost-efficientmanner, and hence provide better support for organizations’operational and decision-making activities
