BASED ON WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

 

AIM:

 

      The main aim of the project is to design a temperature monitoring system of bus bar junction of high voltage switchboard in the substation, which can avoid the accident because the temperature of the bus bar junction is too high during the work process.

 

 

 

PURPOSE:

 

     The high voltage switchgear in substation is the important equipment in transmission system, however, due to the oxidation resistance of the bus bar junction in switchgear is too high and the temperature increases, leading to fire and other accidents, so it is very essential to monitor the temperature of the junction. The purpose of this project is to monitor the temperature at the substations.

DESCRIPTION:

 

          Using the features and technology of wireless sensor networks such as distributed and self-organization to build substation temperature monitoring system, which can monitor the temperature of bus bar junction of the high voltage switchgear in substation in real time to prevent fire and other accidents? This system uses the ZigBee communication protocol, and transceiver. It has the characteristics of low power consumption, low cost, flexible structure and accurate measurement, and it can achieve the long-distance temperature monitoring of the bus bar junction in real time.

 

          The high voltage switchgear in substation is the important equipment in transmission system, however, due to the oxidation resistance of the bus bar junction in switchgear is too high and the temperature increases, leading to fire and other accidents, so it is very essential to monitor the temperature of the junction. But the structure of the switchgear is small, and these junctions are in the environment of high voltage, high current, and strong electric field, so the temperature measurement cannot be manually inspected. The wireless sensor networks based on ZigBee has the characteristics of insulation, strong electromagnetic immunity , low power and high accuracy, solving the problem of easy breaking, easy aging, cannot resist high temperature in traditional optical fiber temperature measurement technology, saving the trouble of wiring, ensuring the reliability and safety of the operation. The sensor module measures the temperature of the nodes, the temperature value is analog, but controller understands digital value, hence to convert in digital data, ADC is used. The ADC is an analog to digital converter which converts the values of Temperature to the digital value, and then microcontroller converts the digital signal into frame data that will be transmitted in accordance with protocol rule. The data is transmitted to the wireless communication module to transmit out the data through Zigbee Module and it is displayed on PC.

        ZIGBEE is a new wireless technology guided by the IEEE 802.15.4 Personal Area Networks standard. It is primarily designed for the wide ranging automation applications and to replace the existing non-standard technologies. It currently operates in the 868MHz band at a data rate of 20Kbps in Europe, 914MHz band at 40Kbps in the USA, and the 2.4GHz ISM bands Worldwide at a maximum data-rate of 250Kbps.

 

        The ZIGBEE specification is a combination of Home RF Late and the 802.15.4 specification. The specification operates in the 2.4GHz (ISM) radio band - the same band as 802.11b standard, Bluetooth, microwaves and some other devices. It is capable of connecting 255 devices per network. The specification supports data transmission rates of up to 250 Kbps at a range of up to 30 meters. ZIGBEE's technology is slower than 802.11b (11 Mbps) and Bluetooth (1 Mbps) but it consumes significantly less power.

 

         802.15.4 (ZIGBEE) is a new standard uniquely designed for low rate wireless personal area networks. It targets low data rate, low power consumption and low cost wireless networking, and its goal is to provide a physical-layer and MAC-layer standard for such networks.

 

Wireless networks provide advantages in deployment, cost, size and distributed intelligence when compared with wired networks. This technology allows users to set up a network quickly, and allows them to set up networks where it is impossible or inconvenient to wire cables. Wireless networks are more cost-efficient than wired networks in general.

RESULT:

 

       Hence we develop a substation monitoring system and protecting the substation from faults, which can avoid the accident because the temperature of the bus bar junction is too high during the work process.
