PROXY SERVER Due to the dramatic increase in the popularity of the World Wide Web, where clients and proxies access resources on servers, Internet traffic has grown significantly. Correspondingly, user perceived latency in retrieving web page has increased. Caching at proxy servers is one of the ways to reduce the response time perceived by Web users. Cache replacement algorithms play a central role in the response time reduction by selecting a subset of documents for caching so that a given performance metric is maximized. Many of the current firewall designs rely on the combination of packet filtering and the proxy technology. The solution for protecting your PC's security and privacy by allowing to block potentially damaging sites. Today, Proxy systems can manage the different operation authorizations that users have when surfing (for example: who is allowed to use which protocol), blocking unwanted surfers outside the local net from going in. The major problems in handling the user requests and maintain the sessions between the various clients and server lies in reduction of response time taken by the server in reply. Many algorithms failed to improve the response time reduction and protect the system from various firewalls. The security and privacy has to be maintained when connected to the external world on the web. Proposed System: Caching at proxy servers is one of the ways to reduce the response time perceived by Web users. Cache replacement algorithms play a central role in the response time reduction by selecting a subset of documents for caching so that a given performance metric is maximized. Proxy server acts on behalf of the web server and to process the user requests in maintaining the user information until the session exists. This Web Server receives the HTTP requests from the clients (Web Browsers), processes the request and sends back the HTTP response to the client in the form of web pages. To be an efficient and reliable Web Server, it should provide the user with plenty of features in front of him. These features will provide the user a friendly platform while working with the Web Server. The basic features of the system are: It reduces Internet Traffic. It reduces the response tine perceived by web users. The login module ensures the privileges to be given and access timing. Proxy Configuration Module This module generates the proxy settings for each user of the internet in an intranet environment. The major issues considered are The privileges access timings type of data for transmission unwanted website access etc., are the import issues that are to be set for each user over the intranet application.
